Helen and Sons Share Their Thoughts on Cameron Woods...
Pictured to the right, long time resident, Helen Powers, is
shown with two of her three sons, Dick and Don Powers. Helen was one of the
first residents to move to Cameron Woods back in 1999. She spent the night in
her apartment the very first night Cameron Woods opened and has been singing our
praises ever since. When asked to share some thoughts about Helen's experience
with us, Dick replied "Cameron Woods has been a true blessing for mom and our
entire family."
Don chimed in that "Mom is happier than she has been in many
years. She loves it here! She loves the way that people help her when she needs
it and she loves having all of her friends right here too."
Helen added, "It's GREAT!" I have no reason to complain about
ANYTHING!" Like Helen, many of our residents are very capable of living
completely independently but have chosen to live in the company of others simply
to eliminate some worry and extra chores. Whether you need some added help or
just choose to simplify life and be around others..."Cameron Woods is a great
place to call home".
First 100th Birthday Celebration at Cameron Woods
Lucille Whitman turns 100, December 23, 2006
Lucille Whitman celebrated her 100th birthday in style. She arrived to her
party in a full-length pink sequined gown complete with high heels. Next to
Lucille is her grandson, John Lozier, who flew in from Texas to help her celebrate.
Lucille is pictured below with her grandson, great grandsons and great grand
daughters-in-law all who arrived from Texas the morning of the party.
CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUCILLE!!!

Resident wins Volunteer of the Year Award
The
Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) awarded Cameron Woods' resident,
Muriel Clark, Volunteer of the Year in 2005. Pictured to the left, Muriel is
shown receiving her award with director, Erika Stewart at the National ALFA
convention in Atlanta, Georgia. Muriel has macular degeneration and is legally
blind yet she volunteers daily assisting area schools with a bag recycling
project as well as assisting in the Cameron Woods' dining room wrapping
silverware. When asked about how she felt winning this award, Muriel's only
reply was that "Cameron Woods and the volunteer work I do has saved my life." If
you would like information about Muriel's bag recycling program, please contact
our Activities Department.

George Crossland,
Cameron Woods' Librarian
"I come to the job with a great deal of INexperience." George jests
when volunteering to take over Librarian duties at Cameron Woods. There is a
library complete with several large print
titles, magazines, romance novels,
mystery books, fact and fiction. Until recently, it was not kept in much of an
orderly fashion. George, however, has changed all of that! He approached
Danette, the activities coordinator, and volunteered to be the Cameron Woods'
Librarian. "Great idea!" she replied and from there his duties have grown.
George makes sure that all of the books and magazines are kept in neat and
orderly fashion. He takes time each day to fan out an assortment of magazines
for pleasant viewing by visitors. George has even published a Cameron Woods'
Library Newsletter with an attached list of large print publications
available in the library. He intends to put out a new newsletter whenever there
are notable additions or changes to our collection and he invites residents to
visit the library and watch for more changes to come. Thank you, George! The
library has never looked better.
Cameron Woods' Pioneers
